Common Problems

In case of fire or other danger to life or property, call 911 immediately or find a blue emergency phone.

My device doesn’t have the right port to connect to the AV system.

All of the general assignment classrooms support BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) connectivity. All rooms offer an HDMI cable to connect your device. To check if your assigned room offers any additional connectivity, please visit our Classroom Catalog.

If your personal device does not have an HDMI port (or other supported port listed in the Classroom Catalog), you will need an adapter. Please reach out to your departmental IT personnel to obtain an adapter. Due to the volume of users we support, coupled with the variety of devices and ports, we cannot provide adapters.

My device is connected to the AV system, but no video is being projected.

If the projector shows a blank screen or a welcome message:

  1. Make sure you have the correct input selected by tapping the "Change Input" button on the touch panel.
  2. Make sure that the "Blackout Display" button at the bottom of the touch panel is not active.
  3. Make sure that the video cable is securely connected to your device or adapter.
  4. Disconnect then reconnect the cable and/or adapter from your device.
  5. Verify that your device is set to mirror/duplicate content:
    • macOS: Under the Apple menu (top-left corner), select System Preferences. Click "Display", then "Arrange", then make sure the "Mirror Displays" box is checked. If you don’t see these options, disconnect and reconnect the video cable and try again.
    • Windows: While holding the Windows key on the keyboard, press the letter P. In the menu that appears, choose "Duplicate". If you don’t see that option, disconnect and reconnect the video cable and try again.
  6. Try restarting your device.

My device is connected to the AV system, video is working, but no audio is being played.

  1. Check the volume settings on the touch panel, your device, and the application or website. Any of these being set too low can prevent the audio from being played.
  2. If you are using the VGA connection, make sure the audio cable is connected to your device's headphone output.
  3. If you are using the HDMI connection:
    • macOS: Under the Apple menu (top-left corner), select "System Preferences". Click "Sound", then "Output", then select a different option. Most likely the correct output will be labeled "Crestron", but it could be different. Cycle through the options until audio plays through the room speakers.
    • Windows: Right-click the speaker/volume icon (bottom-right corner, near the clock), then click "Sound Settings". The system settings explorer will open. Under "Output", select a different option. Most likely the correct output will be labeled "Crestron", but it could be different. Cycle through the options until audio plays through the room speakers.

The wireless microphone isn’t working.

If you turn on the microphone transmitter and no light appears, try replacing the batteries. The shelves/drawers inside the teaching station should have spare batteries. Please place used batteries in the plastic recycling container.

If you turn on the microphone transmitter and a light appears, try adjusting the microphone volume level on the touch panel.

I’m connected to the system and video/audio is working, but I don’t see the room cameras or microphones as an option in my web conference or lecture capture software.

To use the cameras and microphones in an enhanced BYOD room, you must connect the USB cable from the lectern's cable cubby (the same place you found the HDMI cable). Once you connect the USB cable to your device (or adapter), the cameras and microphones should become available options within your desired software.
