Frequently Asked Questions

What services do you offer?

We design, install, commission, service, and maintain the audiovisual equipment in the general assignment classrooms in Blacksburg and Northern Virginia. This includes meeting with faculty to train them to get the most out of the AV systems. We also offer these services for departmental spaces. To learn more, visit our consultations page.

When is technical support available?

Available Monday - Thursday 8am - 7pm; Friday 8am - 5pm

Voicemail is monitored during the evenings, but issues may not be addressed until the following business day.

Support Technicians:

Available Monday – Thursday 7am - 10pm; Friday 7am – 6pm

We do not staff technicians on weekends unless required for a special event.

Online Help Desk:

Available for you to send in a ticket 24/7. Tickets will be answered as soon as possible.

Who may use the classroom AV systems?

The classroom AV systems are intended for academic, research, and administrative use. The systems are available to faculty, staff, students, and guests, though some restrictions may apply. Visit our access page for more information.

Which rooms have AV equipment?

What equipment do you have for loan?

Effective January 2024, Classroom AV Services no longer maintains an inventory of loan equipment. Many colleges/departments offer loanable equipment, as does the Newman Library.

Do you repair AV equipment?

We maintain and repair the equipment we support in the classrooms and other spaces around campus. Please let us know if you find an audiovisual malfunction in one of the classroom spaces. We do not repair personal or departmental equipment we did not install.

Can I record a lecture/event?

Lectures and events can be recorded using university supported software such as Zoom, Teams, or Kaltura. This is possible in any classroom on campus using your personal device. Many of our rooms offer "enhanced BYOD functionality" which allows access to the room's pan/tilt/zoom camera(s) and microphones over USB. Can you help me reserve a room for a class/event?

We are unable to schedule rooms. Please contact scheduling at (540) 231-6888 or csep1@vt.edu. Student organizations may reserve rooms online. Reserving a room DOES NOT grant access to the AV equipment in that room. Visit our access page for more information.

I have a disability. What accommodations are available?

We coordinate with University ADA Services and Services for Students with Disabilities to provide accommodations for employees, students, and guests. Please contact our office with any questions or concerns.
